We have been in a winter wonderland! It has been a wonderful 2 days of beautiful scenery that we have never seen before! This is exactly what we thought japan would be like. To get to this place that looked like it was out of a movie we figured out the train to meet tims brother Jarrad at the stop we had to get off about a hour away to catch another one. Its amazing how quickly the city turns into country. We meet hiromi and little adam at the train staion and headed to the mall before we went to hiromis parents house. The supermarket was fish fish more fish and some more. 10min drive to Hiromis parents house, a traditional japanese house that has been in the family for 200years. Off our shoes go, on our slippers go to head inside. Tim and I had the granny flat and it was our first time making and sleeping on a Japanese futon. It was just as comfty as our hostel beds, we forgot what a real bed feels like now. Dinner was delicious, they usually sit on the floor and eat around the table but for us they wanted to sit at the table with seats. We had real sushi (Not wrapped in seaweed its raw fish on rice tied with a strand of seaweed) that was delivered (You don't make sushi at home as it is something that chefs can only make) (not like the sushi at home) which i forgot to take a photo of as we hoed into it to fast. A lovely soup Hirmois mum made with a glass of sake. We had a really nice time. We wish we could understand them as it is hard when they speak to you in Japanese and you cant respond. The next morning we wake up from our sleep on the floor to a road trip to Nikko. We visited a world heritage site, scenery was spectacular then off we went to the Hotel with hot spring pools. On the way, we went the wrong way we went up and over around and around the mountain, the further we got up the mountain the snow was getting heavier and heavier -4. We finally made it where it had been snowing a lot and out hotel was covered in snow!! It was very exciting!! They were so kind to us when we arrived, waiting outside in the cold for us to get our bags, then take them off us and take them straight to our room. We came up to our room (on goes the funny looking sandals) and it had the most beautiful view, trees covered in snow over the stream. We sat down on the floor with our awkward crossed legs while she poured us green tea. We got ready for this hot spring that i was dreading because you have to go naked with a million other Japanese woman but it wasn't public they were private. They were hot pools made of rocks looking out to the stream while the trees were getting covered in snow. We had to put kimonos on and those silly uncomfortable jandals on that remind me of a kid why i didn't like them as the toe part was to fat between my toes. It was freezing heading out side with two layers on and bare-feet in 0 degrees. After our spa we trotted and shuffled along the snowing bridge across the stream in our 2 layers and extremely uncomfortable jandals and the toe socks did not help. off the go the jandals for dinner we sit down in front of a pit of ash with meat on skewers, pots on burners with wild duck soup. yummy yum yum (it was actually very delicious we all loved it). We woke up to even more snow!! We did not want to leave and now we are back in the city again!
